December is the start of meteorological winter, and its first day definitely looked winter-like across southwestern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area.
The hardest-hit parts of the province were on track to pick up 20-30 cm by Wednesday morning, with parts of the southwest and GTA in line for 10-15 cm. As of Tuesday evening, Wiarton officially reported 29 cm of snow, which may increase by the time the snow finally wraps up.
Most of the region’s highways, including major 400-series routes, were fully or partially covered with snow as the flakes came down during the day Tuesday, with police warning motorists to be mindful of the conditions, with several collisions reported.
Several school bus and class cancellations were announced for school districts in the GTA and southwest, as well.
Below is a selection of shots of the snowstorm as it’s unfolded so far.
